Moises Q&A
>>> It’s been a busy start to the year for you. How do you feel the season has shaped up with New South Wales?
The season is coming to an end now and it didn’t shape up too badly. Unfortunately we’ve just been a little bit inconsistent, but there are signs of improvement for next season which is good. We have such a strong team with a great mix of experienced cricketers and extremely talented youngsters so there are always high expectations for NSW.
>>> Have you been happy with your own form with bat and ball?
In patches, yes I have been. I’ve been pleased to have done well at different times, but I still think I need to put in a few more big performances.
>>> You’ve been handed the captaincy in recent weeks – did that come as a surprise so early in your career?
Yes, certainly. I wasn’t really expecting it at all. Stuart Clark hurt his back so I was the man for the job. I was very honoured to be able to captain the team.
>>> You’ve captained Australia at youth level so you already know what the job is all about – do you have to prepare much differently?
On the field it’s somewhat similar, although there are a lot more off field things you have to deal with at first class level. But it was a great show of confidence from the selectors, coach and association to back me to do the job. Hopefully I will be able to do it again in the not too distant future.
>>> Is the captaincy role something you’d like to do long-term given the opportunity?
Yes I think so. I really enjoy the job, especially the business on the field.
>>> The Indian Premier League kicks off again next month – are you look forward to getting going for your new team?
Absolutely, it is a great tournament and now I’m playing with Delhi Daredevils it should be an interesting season. We have a strong team so hopefully we can do well once again this year.
>>> What are your aspirations internationally this year? Are you hoping to make a big push towards that Ashes squad at the end of the year?
Obviously that would be amazing, but to be honest I don’t think I’ll play enough first class cricket before then. My main goal this year is to really start pulling out some big performances for the NSW Blues and give all 3 titles a push. I think after that the selections will look after themselves.
